TENNIS WITH GOD
“Throughout this memoir, Cox writes movingly of his lifelong search for inner peace, as well as his uphill battle to free himself from the grim influence of a mercurial parent. He also arrestingly describes his own spiritual experiences on the path to enlightenment… A brief but edifying remembrance that’s filled with poignant personal reflection, as well as moments of international adventure.
Through it all, tennis plays an important role physically and spiritually, and lovers of that sport will grasp both the reality and the metaphor through the author’s accounts. A unique memoir, Tennis with God book will appeal to people who are looking for a spiritual center, and who also have a love of sport, as Cox skillfully pulls together seemingly disparate topics into one compelling narrative.”
I enjoyed Tennis With God very much. Cox does a fine job of addressing family relationships, spirituality, politics, and the pursuit of excellence in his beloved game of tennis. He does so within a tightly written narrative that is at once humorous and thoughtful. Cox shares his story with a sincerity and openness that makes following his travels a pleasure.
Brian’s ideas about his search for personal excellence and peak performance are backed up by results. Very interesting read.
Dealing with the supernatural and inexplicable is not for the faint of heart, but Brian succeeds by rolling out his fascinating life story while revealing the stages of his enlightenment. Working on oneself is never easy, either, and Brian gives us an honest appraisal of himself at critical junctures, and posits the future of his spiritual goals without being ostentatious. Thoroughly enjoyable read, and — like the best stories — leaves the reader wanting more… I look forward to the sequel!
I really enjoyed this book. It is written in a way that kept me well engaged until the last page. It is a very interesting personal journey.
